I became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Uintah Chapter in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2015. Incidentally, I didn't think I had time to add something to my already full plate. After all, I was the mother of 5 children, three still at home. I worked as a busy Speech/Language Pathologist, was (and still am) an actively involved member of my church, and a busy homemaker and gardener. But after my mom had given up 3 weeks of her life to help me care and move my in-laws into an assisted living facility in Oklahoma, I couldn't say, "No" when she asked me to join, even offering to pay all costs to do so.
My mother was serving as Regent at the time. I initially looked at it as something I could do with my mom, but by the first meeting, I saw the good that was being done by these amazing ladies. I immediately began helping my mom, by putting my newsletter experience to use taking over the creation of the "Uintah This" bi-annual newsletter, as well as helping her judge the American History Essay Contest. The following year, winter 2016, I was asked to serve as the American History Chairman. One of our chapter winners, also won at state and region!
May of 2016, I was installed as the Recording Secretary to support our new regent, Kathy Fogel, in addition to continuing on as the American History Chairman. I also noticed that we did not have a person filling the Public Relations & Media Chairman position. One of the responsibilities was creating a newsletter. Since I was already doing that, it seemed fitting that I take on that role... right?
This blog is one of my first efforts to get the information out there about our chapter, and to have a place for our current members to find updated information about what is happening in our chapter.
